My name is Daniil, and I am an ICM alumni. I came from Kazakhstan in September 2014, and the Canadian lifestyle completely changed me from that point on!
ICM has changed my life. It is a very multi-cultural place, where I’ve learnt how to communicate and talk to people with different backgrounds, which has enabled me to see the world from a different angle. Staff, students, and instructors were great and very supportive.
ICM has helped me to develop my interpersonal skills. It has provided me with unique knowledge that I couldn’t read about or find in the past. ICM is a place where people come together to discover, celebrate, to honour and to learn. I feel I have definitely become a member of a huge multicultural family because I’ve met amazing people from all over the world!
In the fall of 2015 I had opportunity to represent ICM at a reception for international students at the Legislative Building. It was a great opportunity to share experiences we’ve had as international students among other students from different schools around the city.
In the winter of 2015, I decided to volunteer at ICM’s Orientation as a campus tour coordinator. The next semester, I was selected as an Orientation Coordinator, which I still continue to do today! I really love my position; I enjoy seeing new students in the beginning of their big journey!
In the winter of 2016 I was awarded the Susan Deane Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to students who get involved at ICM and around the Winnipeg community. I am very honoured and grateful to have been selected for this award. Obtaining this award is supportive and encouraging for me to continue making difference.
ICM plays a big role in my life. Currently I’m helping with lot of different activities, such as webinars for incoming students, workshops for current students, and this summer I will actually be travelling home and will be helping out with some seminars in my home country for the Marketing Team! I’m also volunteering for lot of events and festivals around the city, such as the Winnipeg Blue Bomber’s Football Club.
I would like to thank each person, friend, volunteer and staff who helped me in pursuing my dream! Words could not describe how grateful and honoured I am to be a part of such a great community! It’s been a pleasure to work with everyone! Again I just want to express my gratitude to the ICM staff – I’ve received unforgettable and unique experience.
Once you fall in love with this place, you will never forget it!
With love from Mr. Green (how the staff know me).
